To our wonderful customers and friends, and to the Alton and Riverbend communities, the ownership of Halpin Music Company has some very exciting news!

Halpin Music Company is planning to move!

As many of you know, Halpin Music has occupied the 9,000 plus square foot building at 2375 Homer Adams Parkway since it was built back in 1977. At that time, acoustic pianos, grand pianos and large console organs were major contributors to Halpin Music’s product offering, which required a lot of floor space to display and demonstrate.

More and more, however, the changes in the music retail marketplace over the last 10-20 years has caused the focus of our business to become more and more centered on what we call the “school music” segment. This includes band and orchestral instrument and accessory sales and rentals, instrument service and repairs, and music lessons.

In order to better serve this focus, and to ensure Halpin Music Company’s long term viability in the regional community, the ownership team has made the decision to relocate to a facility in the area that more closely aligns with these goals. As we become more focused on a business segment that happens largely “outside our four walls”, it logically follows that the building we have “lived in” for the last 40 years is simply too big for our needs going forward.

Though we still plan to sell small goods, accessories and print music for all product groups, this effort to “downsize” does include the decision to “de-emphasize” some product categories that have in recent years become less and less profitable, namely guitars, basses, amps, digital pianos and drum sets. We have tried our best to remain competitive in the marketplace with these products, but the decision to narrow our business focus demands that we place all available business resources to that end. Our plan is to offer a small selection of these products in our new location, primarily geared towards the entry-level musician and student.

Conversely, we do plan on increasing our selection of new and used band and orchestra instruments for rental and sale, along with their accompanying accessories. We will also continue to offer music lessons and other exciting educational programs such as Kidzrock in our new location, as well as expanding our marketing and sales efforts in the area of institutional sound sales, installation and service. We are also planning a number of exciting improvements to our web and social media presence.

Though our location will be changing soon, our commitment to provide top notch products and services, as well as great customer service, will remain the same as it has for the last 56 years- as will our mission to be your local resource in the pursuit of creating lifelong music-makers.

As we go through this process in the coming months, we invite you to share any personal memories of our current location with us, either in person or on our Facebook page. We would love to hear from you as we move through the process of relocating, and look very forward to continuing this musical dialogue with our wonderful customers and friends in our new location, which we will announce at the appropriate time.
We thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for your business through the years, and want to express in advance our deep gratitude for your support and encouragement as we prepare to execute this major change to our business.

We welcome you!

Our store has been serving the needs of the Alton and the surrounding area for a very long time. The business was originally established as the F.W. Davis Piano Co. back in 1895. Its current name was derived when Clem and Ann Halpin purchased the former Gould Music in the spring of 1961.

Halpin Music has been under the ownership of Mark Landon and Brock Hermens since 1995, who strive to continue the long tradition of combining name brand products and the highest level of customer service possible, along with one of the easiest, most option oriented instrument rental programs available in the area.

We offer so much more than band rental and orchestra lease programs and service, such as a full range of musical instruments, accessories, sheet music, lessons, repairs and educational programs to compliment our 50-plus years of experience in the music business.

Halpin Music’s focus on the needs of music educators and their students has developed through the years, resulting in an unsurpassed level of service to the school music programs in parts of 9 counties in the Southwestern Illinois region.
